Backpacking to Europe – Part 1: Arriving at Abu Dhabi International Airport

Trip ni aku plan bulan 9 tahun lepas. Masa tu, aku dengan Mira tengah fikir, nak travel mana lagi lepas ni. Plan kitorang konon-kononnya nak pergi China. Nak pergi Guilin. Lawa dan sejuk, kan? Sekali tu kawan ofis aku si Fazli cakap ada tiket murah pergi Europe. Qatar Airways. Dalam RM 1,500.00 pergi balik. Giler murah lah kan?! Haha. Tapi, bila aku tengok website Qatar, dah tak dapat harga tu. Aku pun try Etihad. Sekali, dapat harga RM 1,695.00 RETURN dari KL-Abu Dhabi-Amsterdam. Lepas 2-3 hari fikir, dengan lafaz Bismillah, aku pejam mata je beli. 5 bulan aku tunggu sejak beli tiket, maka kini bermulalah Eurotrip aku dan Mira.

This trip was planned in September last year. Mira and I was thinking, “Ok, where to next?”. We thought of going to Guilin, China. It is pretty and cold too. That was until my officemate, Fazli told me that there was a promotion made by Qatar Airways to Amsterdam. I checked the website but the cheap price was no longer available. Then, I tried my luck and checked Etihad’s website. Guess what? Return ticket for KL-Abu Dhabi-Amsterdam was only RM 1,695.00!. After thinking for a few days, I decided to just buy the ticket. I waited for 5 months and now, our journey begins.

Day 1 – 9 February 2017

Flight aku bertolak pukul 2.35 pagi dari KLIA. First time naik flight jauh dan first time naik flight terakhir. Nervous tu memang ada tapi kata nak rasa pergi tempat orang, harung jelah. Hehe. Kami sampai KLIA dalam pukul 10.00 malam. Famili mertua aku tolong hantar. Sampai-sampai KLIA, kami makan dulu di Secret Recipe sebelum drop bag di kaunter bila kaunter buka. Mak aku sampai masa kami tengah makan. Nasib baik dah check-in online siap-siap. Panjang giler line orang nak check in. Tips: Sila online check-in dan print boarding pass. Sekurang-kurangnya, flight kita dah confirmed.

My flight would depart at 2.35 am from KLIA. My first long haul flight and my first red-eye flight. Nervous? Of course! But for the sake of the experience,  I have to bear with it. We arrived at KLIA around 10.00 pm. My in-laws sent us to the airport. We had our dinner whilst waiting for the baggage drop counter to open. We were lucky we had checked-in because the line to check-in was so long. Tips: Please check-in online and print the boarding pass before hand. A lot of time would be saved.

Tepat jam 2.35 pagi, kapal terbang pun berlepas.

At 1.00 am, we went to KLIA Satellite Terminal building. Although the flight would be at 2.35 am, we we allowed to board the aircraft at 1.45 am. At 2.35 am sharp, we departed from KLIA.

My flight path.

Sepanjang dalam flight, aku berpeluh sebab bajet nak ke negara sejuk, aku dah siap-siap pakai t-shirt dua lapis. Jangan ikut aku ya. Tips: Pakai je baju biasa. Sampai destinasi, kita boleh je sarung winter jacket tu.

I sweated during the flight because I wore 2 layers shirt. Please do not make me as an example. Tips: Wear normal shirt only. Winter jacket can be worn when we arrived at the destination.

Mesmerizing.

Soon after we departed, we were served with chicken pie. Then, I chose chicken dan vege for breakfast. Overall, Etihad cabin meal were superb for me. After breakfast, the cabin light was turned off and I dozed off. 3 hours later, I woke up to a surreal view. I saw stars, abundance of them, in the skies. I saw another flight, flying on the horizon. The view was amazing. I could not stopped praising Him. It was too beautiful. Then, I continued sleeping until 6.00 am, when we landed at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

  1. Wah, bestnya pergi Euro. Bila la dapat pergi sana lagi? Beruntung dapat tiket quite murah dalam 1,600 something. I pun ada dengar that Qatar Airways offering cheaper flights but bila buka kat website, harga was not the same yang I saw earlier.

Booked your ticket 5 months earlier allows you some ample time to buat preparation, which is good!
Anyway, jangan la pakai berlapis baju kalau naik flight. Kang nanti tak selesa pula. #NoteToSelf juga, sometimes excited pergi tempat sejuk. Haa, dari KL siap pakai berlapis lapis. Hahaha!

Be safe wherever you are heading too. Post gambar lelawa please!

    1. Thanks bro. Tulah ni pun bersyukur dapat pergi. Lepasni harap ada rezeki lagi.

Tau takpe menyesal pakai baju berlapis sampai Ams berpeluh teruk.

Iya US memang agak sulit, terutama di masa-masa seperti ini.
