This is such a sad story. I live near Golden Bay and saw the over 600 pilot whales that stranded in Puponga but wasn’t in a position to help at the time. It was heartbreaking. Now I’ve joined Project Jonah and while we haven’t had a stranding since then, I expect we will at some point so I will be there.

I almost cried too reading your story. I can understand how hard it must be to walk away but nothing you can do about it as it happened so many times in the past. We humans are not superman to be able to lift those heavy whales. Being there and asking for help was already a big help.

Ps, if you are ever back down south, around Central Otago region, give us an email, especially if you ever decide to do the Central Otago rail trail. Ill help ya out with some places to stay, and if Im around Ill show you a few places you probably havent seen, and a few sites lord of the rings was filmed if you havent been to them, ie Poolburn damn, in the idavalley, and a good cold NZ beer at my local, which oozes country kiwi hospitality.
